Paloma Faith has finally cracked it and got a single to the top of the UK Charts – but even Paloma says that it’s Sigma’s Number One. The song, Changing, (released on September 14th) climbed an amazing 114 places to claim the top spot. It also reached Number One in the UK Dance Chart. The single was co-written by Sigma, TMS, Wayne Hector and Ella Eyre.
Drum and Bass duo Sigma’s debut Number One was their third single released on the 3Beats label. ‘Nobody to Love’ was originally a bootleg remix of “Bound 2″ by Kanye West that got so much positive feedback and so much airplay on Radio One that they reworked it and released it on 6th April this year. That was good move as it entered the UK Chart at Number One and also topped the UK Dance and New Zealand Charts.
Sigma are now the first group to have 2 consecutive Number Ones that have shifted more than 100,000 copies during their first week of release.
Sigma members Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie first met at Leeds University in 2006. If you’re struggling to make it you might like to know that Cameron topped up his student grant by working in a record store and Joe was DJ-ing Hip Hop and doing warm-ups for Event Horizon. He even did a warm up for Grandmaster Flash which is pretty cool.
Sigma were signed up by 3Beat Records in mid 2013. They have also worked on various remixes including work with Ellie Goulding, Eric Prydz, Skepta, Sway and Groove Armada.
They rocked Glastonbury in back in June this year.
This trio of Tom Barnes, Ben Kohn and Peter Kelleher come from West London. They have also worked as a production team for Professor Green (Read All About It), Emeli Sandé (Read All About It, Pt. III), Little Mix (Wings) and Dappy (No Regrets).
This British songwriter has worked with Nicki Menaj, One Direction, The Wanted and Olly Murs. His biggest claim to fame has to be writing seven number one singles for Westlife, including Flying Without Wings.
Ella (real name Ella McMahon) is an exotic mix of English, Afro-Jamaican and Maltese who trained as a competitive swimmer at Millfield School before taking up the music biz. She’s now a singer/songwriter signed up to Virgin EMI. Ella collaborated on the UK Number One ‘Waiitng All Night” with Rudimental. Her first single called “If I go” came out in July 2014
Ella is one to watch. She was the runner up in the BRIT Critics’ Choice Award (losing out to Sam Smith) and was also the runner up for the Sound of 2014 BBC award. Ella was also nominated for the MTV “Brand New for 2014” Award and the MTV “Critic’s Choice” Award.
Changing Paloma Faith
Paloma Faith performs the lead vocals on Changing and is also in the video – Sigma appear in it right at the end. It was shot in Miami and features her wearing great retro gear which suits her kooky personality. Changing showcases Paloma’s slightly husky soul voice and gets into your head. YouTube viewers seemed more concerned with her looking like Billie Piper.
Now you come to mention it…
